Thankyou for the pictures, our house is over the other side of the hilltop hotel, just over the ridge, and up the road from the Daphne hotel. It looks like there are still bits of green. So glad Yip the great dane survived, we knew he would be up there, think there were puppies too.by joanne - Halkidiki

For a good cheap meal, try Pirates near the church. Basic but good. Pork Souvlaki, Greek salad doused in olive oil and lemon, and bread to mop up the juice mmmmmmmmmmmm wish I was there.by joanne - Halkidiki
Re: replanting the forest - 17 years ago
The Kathermerini Newspaper has launched an appeal along with Skai radio to ensure the replanting of the forest. The greek government have a bad record for looking after forests that have been damaged by fire and the danger is they will allow building on these areas. Please email skai radio with your support for their campaign.by joanne - Halkidiki

Re: ENGLAND vs ANDORRA in KRIOPIGI !! and GREEK NIGHT - 17 years ago
Petra I too saw the picture of the car in the sea. In Hanioti and Pefkohori there are huge channels that take the water from the mountain to the sea. Through the summer months people park in these channels. What they dont realise is when the rain is heavy these channels can turn into rivers. I suspect this is how the car ended up in the sea. We all know how the media like to dramatise everyby joanne - Halkidiki

Re: kriopigi - 17 years ago
No biba my friend I am not there, I have a house there in Hanioti in the middle of the forest. All around it is ash, and our friends that were staying there are lucky to still be with us. Leigh on this forum runs a business in Hanioti, I know him well as do many previous visitors to the region. To lie about the situation would not do his reputation or business any favours. Re: Okay - FINAL POST On fires!!! - 17 years ago
Lisa and Jo nobody is doubting what a horrific experience you and many others had along with local people and their children. What they are are saying is its okay now for tourists to return, the people saying it are'nt lying for their own gain and want to reassure people that have booked to come that all is okay. The tour companies are also saying its okay. As for the comment its all aboutby joanne - Halkidiki
Re: kriopigi - 17 years ago
Biba please stop being such a drama queen if it worries you that much dont go, once again, and for the umpteenth time Kriopigi was not affected by the fire.by joanne - Halkidiki
Re: fire 'under control' - 17 years ago
A friend was driving to Thessalonika just before the fire started, she said at Neo Moudania the skies turned black and the wind whipped up so suddenly she thought it was a tornado, there was then heavy rain and lightning, very extreme. So maybe it was a lightning strike that caused the fire it does sound like very freaky weather.by joanne - Halkidiki
Re: Kalithia - 17 years ago
Agree with you Roy the newspapers and tv want to keep it as sensational for as long as possible, they dont want to hear about the place returning to normal it doesnt interest them. Comment by two british journalists at Selonica airport yesterday overheard by our friends ' that was the best 24 hours I've ever had'. Needless to say she nearly ripped his head off. It may have been a good storby joanne - Halkidiki
