Re: Weather 1st week October Hanoti - 15 years ago
I hope it is warmer than it was today, just 18 deg and windy and cold! I know this is not usual, but it could happenby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Horse Riding - 15 years ago
There are two on Kassandra, one near Pallini and one near Skioni/Loutra. Not seen much riding done though, just the adverts so not sure how good or how many horses are available. In driving round Sithonia I have never seen anything advertised, but that does not mean I may have missed it ! All in all, I saw plenty of riding up to about 15 years ago, but in the last 15 years I have not seen anyonby Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Easy Jet to Thessaloniki - 15 years ago
Remember, Hanioti is about 60 miles so the taxi fare of around 70-75 euros is not so bad when you compare taxi rides in the UK. My sister once got offered a place on a tourist bus at the airport for her and her husband at 25 euros each though, but the trip took nearly two hours as it stopped at all the hotels.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Fish Restaurant (lobster) - 15 years ago
IMHO the best fish restaurant is Villa Stasa at Loutra at the end of the peninsula. However, I have never seen anywhere in Halkidiki where you can choose a live lobster. In fact, in recent years, although we have eaten lobster in the past I have not seen it on the menu. Villa Stasa has fresh sea bream, haddock, small fishes, mullet etc like many other tavernas. However, we know where they buyby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: weather!!!!!! - 15 years ago
try this link for Kassandra weather. It was windy yesterday and today but still got to around 28 deg C.by Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Recomendations for Hotel in Thessoliniki - 15 years ago
We have only stayed in Makedonia Palace, which is five star (4 star by UK standards). It is very nice, outside it looks like any other horrible city building, inside it is lovely. The buffet breakfast is to die for. You can get a good rate by contacting them directly.by Jane - Halkidiki
Transport needed back to UK for HONDA SILVERWING - 15 years ago
We have to move back to UK in six weeks and if we do not sell our HONDA SILVERWING (see previous posting) we shall need to transport it back. Is anyone returning to the UK this year and if so, do they have a van or similar that could safely take a large scooter back to the UK for us. Please reply to post or pm me to discuss costs etc. Many thanks.by Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Local Olive Oil - 15 years ago
We are lucky enough to be going home by car this year, but in previous years we carefully wrapped bottles in newspaper and wrapped in towels in the suitcase with no problems.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Kokorretsi - 15 years ago
We have seen it in a few restaurants on the main road in Pefkochori. Sorry can't remember names though. Also at Obelix in Siviris. Try also main road in Kallithea, just past Massoutis at a giros type place, they advertise it now and then.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: re: euros buy in uk or resort??? - 15 years ago
Nationwide card is best bet. We are getting the business rate, yesterday it was 1.28. Locally varies between 1.16 and 1.20 as far as we have seen. Nationwide card has no charges for each transaction either.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Pedro the diver, question for you - 15 years ago
Thanks Pedro, I will try to get closer - bit difficult as I am still scared of them !! Interested in looking for the small fish thoughby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Where to go in Halkidiki - 15 years ago
Nea Skioni is a small fishing village with a newly built marina, although trips were supposed to go from there to Thessaloniki that fell through and now just boats moor there. It is interesting to sit and watch boats come in and out. There is a nice beach which extends past the actual village area so you can find quiet parts too. Lots of places to eat, some of the best are the small Greek placesby Jane - Halkidiki
Pedro the diver, question for you - 15 years ago
Today we have small round brown jellyfish in our sea on the west side of Kassandra. They appear to have small brown dots all around on very small stalks - sorry daren't get closer ! Are they dangerous and do they sting. They are the typical jellyfish type of movement but did not appear to have any long tentacles. Can't find pics anywhere on the internet of them, but maybe you know what theyby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: halkidiki,sept 25th 08...???? - 15 years ago
I think if you are coming 25 September everything will be open in Kriopigi. Hanioti is still open. Most places last year stayed open until around mid October. Then a few closed, and one by one by the end of October all closed except the locals places, cafes and small village tavernas. Even in Nov we had a fair choice of open places and we live on the other, very quiet, side. Car hire. I belieby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: tourist rates - 15 years ago
Get a Nationwide card and you don't get charged by the bank in UK and get the business exchange rate. Currently we are getting about 1.25 - 1.26 .by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: halkidiki,sept 25th 08...???? - 15 years ago
A few things might start closing midOctober but most things open for first week at least. Weather last year was better in late September to mid October than early September, so you can never be sure. It wasnt cold in September, but very windy with a few storms. Not much rain either. You should be fine. Temps usually, if you can use that word anywhere nowadays, early 70's. English plumber - 15 years ago
I don't seem to be able to find previous posts on this. Is there an English plumber out here who could help me with a query. It may be we need some work done or it may be something simple, but the smell is awful !!!!by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Just back 3-7-08 - 15 years ago
Kassandria market, tomatoes 2 euro kilo, fruit such as nectarines and peaches 80 cents a kilo, cucumbers 4 for a euro. Prices for fruit and veg coming down daily. Meat and fish same as UK prices, although fish from ports less. Frappe 1.80 euro in Greek bougatsa places, up to three euros tourist places. Beers generally 2.5 euros although bars and cafes seem to be more. Stick to tavernas andby Jane - Halkidiki

The money for a transfer rep for Thomsons is not very good at all. I wont post it here, but for 4-6 hours work it is very low.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Less touristy places near Polichrono? - 15 years ago
Villa Stasa at Loutra, marvellous views, good Greek food, good portions and mainly Greek customers (apart from us and those we recommend haha!). Beaches on the other side, Nea Skioni, Mola Kaliva and areas inbetween. Not many tourists, but not very sandy. However sea very clean and clear and no bifbats etc on beach. Possidi is also very nice, nice taverna on way down but cant remember nameby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Hairdressers - 15 years ago
June, try Eleni in Hanioti. Just ask anywhere and someone will tell you directions. We have never found a good hairdresser before, but this year we managed to find Eleni. She speaks English too, although she is Greek.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti - 15 years ago
Hi Lisa, last year August was red hot and dry, September had flash floods in a few villages, hailstones and lots of wind, although warm. October was lovely and warm, and mostly dry with only a handful of days where it rained for a while.by Jane - Halkidiki
