Re: Halkidiki Holidays who's will be there ? - 14 years ago
Hi Shirls and Baz, great news ! I bet you went to our favourite place in Possidi, right at the end of the road and as you say sitting out over the sea. We love going there and they do a fantastic stuffed (with garlic!!) aubergine. Have a great time, we hope to do the long term thing again next year if we find somewhere nice to rent when we go over soon. Janeby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Weather in sithonia - June / July - 14 years ago
Oohh, I don't want to get it wrong ! I suppose for warm water I would choose the July option. But it might get quite hot weatherwise. On the otherhand, the weather early June should be lovely but the sea might be cool. Personally I would choose the July option but then I have no kids. Happy holiday whenever you choose, I am sure you will be fine.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Weather in sithonia - June / July - 14 years ago
The water in June is usually fine, better from mid June. May it is cold certainly. It depends on the resort area and wind direction/weather too, we swam in Vourvourous and it was quite cold compared to Mola Kaliva on Kassandra. I would, in your case, choose mid June. It can still get very hot indeed, but not so hot as July and August.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: money matters - 14 years ago
Even better, Nationwide Flex account. Although they now charge 1% outside Europe, for travel in Europe there is no charge to use and you get the business rate of the day, not the tourist rate. There are loads of cash point machines around the peninsulas.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Pefkhouri Village - 14 years ago
No really John, we have been going for so many years, we rented a house for two years til end last summer. So we usually just do our own thing. When we are living there we go to Sithonia sometimes to Vourvourous as we like it there, we go to Moudanea usually once a month but not on market day. We go to the Kassandrea market every week for food. Sometimes we take a trip to an island, but thatby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Pefkhouri Village - 14 years ago
When we were over there last year for the summer we used to go to Pefkochori occasionally for coffee and spinach pie. We found most of the beach bars and cafes were very expensive, although you do get a great view. In MHO the best cafes were those on the main road on the right hand side going towards Paliori. There were a couple, can't remember their names, but mostly frequented by the Greeks (by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: any markets in or near Polychrono - 14 years ago
It is about half way in my estimation. Used to take us about half an hour from Mola Kaliva on the other side of the peninsula. Moudanea market is very good, very large and the town itself is a nice working Greek town, with lots of different types of shops and set on the harbour front. We personally like Moudanea very much, but went to the Kassandrea market every week for our groceries as it waby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: any markets in or near Polychrono - 14 years ago
The weekly market is held at Kassandrea on a Tuesday. I feel sure you should be able to get a bus there, but taxi definitely. There are lots of fruit and veg stores, cheese, ouzo and clothing, shoes etc. Not huge like Moudanea, but worth looking round. It is not far, about ten mins by taxi.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Kriopigi, Polihrono, Hanioti, PefkohoriI: LATEST WEATHER FORECAST - 14 years ago
Try the meteo.gr website, under Kassandra. Not sure if it comes up in English but it certainly looks OK from later this week.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: CASABLANCA SPORTS BAR & ROOMS - 14 years ago
Not long now. Looking forward to seeing you all. Not told Mia where we are going, haha! Hopefully next year she will be back in her rightful place waiting for that ham to come by ! Get that sun ordered up ready for our arrival. See you soon Jane Mart Miaby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Anything worth seeing in Nea Moudania - 14 years ago
There is lots to see in Moudania. It is a Greek working town, it is not fancy by any means and I had a bit of a "to do" with someone who described it as dirty some years ago! If you like looking round a medium sized town with lots of local shops such as fishmongers, as well as some nice gift shops, clothes and shoe shops, snack bars, tavernas etc, then it is worth at least one visit.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: meteora - 14 years ago
Hi, depends on when you want to go I suppose. We booked about 2 weeks in advance for end of June. I seem to remember I phoned to book (to make sure dog was inside the room with us) and I didn't have to pay until we checked out. I think a lot of people looking round were actually on coach tours and the like and were heading back to their holiday hotels. By the way, and we should know betterby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Car hire hanioti - 15 years ago
We are using Kriopigi cars this time too, our family have used them in the past and were more than happy. Cars look nice and clean and modern, and delivered and picked up from airport like Phil says.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: "Greek Night" near Afitos?! - 15 years ago
Hi, there is a Greek Night with plate smashing etc at the Acropolis in Kriopigi every week. Not sure of day, but someone is bound to know and post that for you. Janeby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: meteora - 15 years ago
Hotel Odysseon - we stayed there last year whilst visiting Meteora for a few days. We stayed there because we were allowed to take our dog with us (initially they said on the balcony, but my dog doesnt do balconies ! then in the room was allowed) Last day saw us with masking tape going round the floor of the room as our labrador was moulting!!!! No problems encountered though. To be honest,by Jane - Halkidiki

Hi Angi, sent you a private message. Janeby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: exchange rate - 15 years ago
Just a note, the Nationwide card is brilliant, but is now only free in Europe. So no worries for Greece, but if you plan to go outside Europe you now get charged 2% on every withdrawal.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: SANI BEACH CLUB - 15 years ago
Nearby by taxi from Sani you can go to Athitos, Nea Fokia (you drive into Nea Fokia via backroads quite easily). Not far from Athitos is Kallithea which is more touristy.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: September weather for trip to Vourvourou - 15 years ago
August can be very hot indeed, although there is the meltimi cooling breeze but that doesnt always keep you cool! September is a good time and for many many years we have had good Septembers. Last year was an exception, we had a good first two weeks, then the final two weeks of September were quite cold 13degC, and rainy. It brightened up again in early October through November! So reallyby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti Beach - Sea Urchins? - 15 years ago
Hi Jeff, when are you going to go over to Halk then, next year? And why no more after that? Sorry, being nosey. We may be over there next year so we might eventually get to meet you and your wife, not forgetting the sprog ! Have a good summer. Janeby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: labrador puppy - 15 years ago
Hi Joanne, yes they have to change. As I said to Helen in a PM I think they are getting, slightly, better over my 30 years of visiting. But they have a long way to go. Like you say, empty pockets may be the answer but to be honest until I lived long term in Greece I used to feed the strays while on holiday and not really give a second thought to anything else as I did not realise they were poisoby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: CASABLANCA SPORTS BAR & ROOMS - 15 years ago
See you soon Debbie, Tony and Thanassi ! Jane Mart but unfortunately not Mia this time, perhaps next year!!by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: labrador puppy - 15 years ago
I understand that Helen, but some of these pups are rescued at only a few days old and the ones I saw were perfectly labrador like, full of play and gorgeous temperaments. There are always loads of dumped few day old pups unfortunately. Some good friends of ours over there took some in last year and cared for them for ages before Julie could take them in, and then ended up keeping one too !!!by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: labrador puppy - 15 years ago
Hi Andrea, I assume you live in Halkidiki. Whilst I applaud your choice of dog (we have a black lab, who we bring over to Halk with us), I would just like to suggest that perhaps you consider adopting one of the gorgeous strays (many of which are of labrador descent, if not pure labrador). You need to contact Julie who runs the rescue centre. Most people over there have her number or email asby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Halkidiki Holidays who's will be there ? - 15 years ago
Hi Phil, great to see someone else likes that side, but please keep quiet....!!!! We always rent over that side, last two years in Mola Kaliva for 8 months each time, and the beaches although not brilliant sandy are very very clean clear water and only a handful of people even in August!!! Have you been to the taverna on the main road down to the beach, opposite the supermarket. Looks a bit sby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Halkidiki Holidays who's will be there ? - 15 years ago
Hardly Louise!! Just because it is Northern Greece doesnt mean the summer is colder. Last year it was warm (and more importantly dry - apart from the odd night of rain) right from end March through to mid September and June, July and August were super hot!by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti Beach - Sea Urchins? - 15 years ago
We lived on the other side in Mola Kaliva, and I can vouch that the water was brilliantly clear and clean, but because it was pebbly and a bit rocky there were some sea urchins. I just wore Crocs in the sea, and you can buy cheap Croc lookalikes locally in Hanioti and other resorts.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Halkidiki holiday reviews and ratings - 15 years ago
That is great Niko. All I can say is that I wish the "other" forum had allowed unbiased opinions to help future visitors and its own forum users. I commented that a service provided to check flight status should not perhaps be taken too seriously as it had not worked for us a few times. So what did he do, first he removed my posting, then when I disagreed with that route, he bannby Jane - Halkidiki
