Re: Nationwide cash card NOW in Greece - 16 years ago
Thanks to both answers. Alan, yes I do know the Nationwide card is brilliant abroad, I used one last year. My problem this year is that we arrive 14 March and really our rent is due for the whole year by beginning of April, which does not give us much time at maximum of 300 euros a day withdrawal to pay it. However, the rate in the UK at the moment is just so low I think we are just going to rby Jane - Halkidiki
Nationwide cash card NOW in Greece - 16 years ago
Anybody over there drawing cash from the UK via a Nationwide card at the moment? We are due to leave in a week for Halkidiki and need to pay our rent on arrival. However the rates in the UK are dire at the moment, 1.28 is the best we can get which makes our yearly rent much more expensive than if we could get 1.4 like last year. If not Nationwide, then what rate are the banks offering please.by Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Polychrono - 16 years ago
Yes September last year was cold because of the wind. It was actually about 75-80 degrees F but the wind made it feel cold. They had brilliant weather right from mid April (80deg) to end August, Then we had a huge storm. On our side two villages flooded. On the other side Hanioti way there were huge hailstones! This is unusual, but weather patterns are changing all over. We stay from March tiby Jane - Halkidiki

Re: aqua park - 16 years ago
It is a dangerous road, as are most in Greece due mainly to the Greek style of driving. We too have driven many many times on that road, and we feel fine driving it. BUT, we have been doing this for over 20 years and we stay long term in Halkidiki, so we are more aware and extra careful. I wouldn't say don't drive, especially if you are an experienced driver, as Erik says it is a lovely drivby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Baby products - 16 years ago
All the supermarkets stock baby stuff. I dont know prices offhand as I dont have babies, haha!! Bit old for that. However, if no-one comes back to you before we get there 14 March, I will take a look at prices for you. There is also a LIDL just outside Kallithea. Not sure where you are staying or whether you will have a car. Hope that helps a bit.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Hallo Jane! - 16 years ago
Hi Beppe We leave 9 March from England, and arrive 14th March in Halkidiki. We plan on leaving again 5 October all being well, and hopefully we will both keep in good health this year. I have your pictures of Mr Athos, he is a fine dog indeed! A very lucky dog too. We hope to see you when you come over, let us know when you plan to arrive. Are you staying all summer? What about your wiby Jane - Halkidiki

I have sent you a private message pierrethedog. Let me know either way, no problems whatever you choose to do, just so we know what we are doing or planning. Cheers. Janeby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Thessaloniki to Hanioti - 16 years ago
Of the five of you, how many are adults? If all five, then we cant help. But if there are some children then we maybe able to pick you up and take you back in our range rover for a small charge. Send me a private email if interested and we can discuss further. We live there March til October, so a trip to the airport is not much of a problem now and then.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Weather April - 16 years ago
Can be very warm, cool or rainy. It really depends on the year. Last year it was hot from early April until end August, then cooled down a bit. At one time you could foretell with some accuracy, but nowadays nowhere in the world can be guaranteed good weather, even in the hot season ! We are over 14 March and are expecting it to be coolish until at least mid April. Cross fingers, mid Apriby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: GREAT NEWS Halkidiki closer to UK with EasyJet from £27.99 - 16 years ago
Didnt realise that! However, I have flown Easy Jet many many times and to be quite honest we have only ever had one delay and we have always been very happy with the seating etc. My only gripe is that it is London area again, don't the airlines know that there are other people in other parts of the UK ! A good deal from the Midlands, now that would be good news. When you add the fuel, car parby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: I live in Polichrono - 16 years ago
Great news, the more people to help the better. We are due back in Mola Kaliva in early March til October. Would be nice to meet. Any help we can give Julie helps the poor dogs, can we think of anything to fundraise locally? Bit difficult where we are as it is not really very touristy (only with Greeks), but Polichrono should be a good idea. Shall we get together. Send me a private message aby Jane - Halkidiki

Jeff, (not fourkas mad dog man cos there aint no dogs left they all poisoned) - dont say that! I am sure there are more dogs about for you to take care of when you eventually visit us in Halkidiki again. When are you planning on coming by the way? Janeby Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Just got back from Kriopigi - 16 years ago
Alkion Aparthotel is a very nice hotel, nice pool and gardens. It is quite a walk down to the beach in Kriopigi but there is a small train that goes down. When are you going. In July and August it will be very busy and there should be lots going on. There are tavernas, Gluko Cafe which is our friends cafe and is very nice and friendly, and does some really nice food, coffees, wine, teas etc.by Jane - Halkidiki

Anybody still over there, please offer your support - 16 years ago
On Saturday the 8th of December at 11.00pm Julie (the lady who rescues and rehomes stray dogs and puppies) is having a charity night for the dogs at the MYSTIQUE NIGHT CLUB IN FOURKA BEACH. The tickets are 15 euros, price includes one drink. There will be a live band playing. There will be one draw with the tickets, the prize will be a kennel for a dog and some dog food. Re: I live in Polichrono - 16 years ago
Debbie, I would really consider spaying your dog if you are living over there long term. I know I wouldnt have considered taking my girl if she wasnt neutered. It takes the hassle out of owning a girl dog, please have a think about it.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: I live in Polichrono - 16 years ago
Hi Debbie, your dog sounds just right as a playmate for my labrador girl. She is a small labrador, very very friendly and absolutely adores the sea. We will definitely come over to see you, and perhaps you might like to come over and see us. Would have to access our landlords reaction to a visiting doggie ! But as he stated no dogs, then we asked to rent and had a labrador, he might be OKby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: I live in Polichrono - 16 years ago

Have a great time til you leave in January and we will see you next year. Bye for now Jane p.s. what type of dog do you have, is she/he friendly? Be nice for our dogs to meet up too as I have to be so careful when my dog wants to play with strby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: I live in Polichrono - 16 years ago
Hi Debbie We have rented a house for three years, in Mola Kaliva on the other side of the peninsula. Please keep an eye on your dog and the stray, the poisoning situation is quite bad and it was the only thing I hated about my stay this year. We rented before for three years in Mola Kaliva, but at another house. We then had six years of just holidays, and returned this year for another thby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: I live in Polichrono - 16 years ago
Me too, arrived back in UK Saturday to grey drizzle, lovely ! We aim to come back mid April. Keep on with the Greek. I studied for seven years at night in UK and was quite good, but after just six years of not living in Greece I have gone very rusty. Hoping to get back up to speed next year. Enjoy the winter. Debbie, did you hear anything about poisoned dogs in Polichrono in early Octoberby Jane - Halkidiki

Just added a photo taken from bottom of our garden at Mola Kaliva. OK, here we have stones and pebbles, but the sea is perfectly clean as it is at Skioni, Siviris and Fourka. Just as clean as the east side, but less tourists so much quieter, thank goodness. Davidpeterwoodhead, have you actually been on this side. This is our fourth year living this side. I have never yet had any oil from taby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Help - we're new!!! - 16 years ago
Just a point, the west side has perfectly clean water. It is far enough away from the ports and has open sea to the mainland. It also has Sani beach that side, which is a blue flag beach. So don't think that the sea is dirty this side, it is NOT.by Jane - Halkidiki
