Re: Help on finding the right town/village in Halkidiki! - 8 years ago
Hi, Pefkohori and Hanioti are both nice villages which offer shops, tavernas and perhaps a cosmopolitan feel to them. There are a few bars in each but you can avoid them if you wish. Beaches can get busy but a short walk out of either and you can be relaxing on a quiet beach. You probably won't find any golden sandy beaches as most tend to be small shingles and sand. Thomson Flying from Bristol 2015 - 9 years ago
Just noticed Thomson are advertising Bristol as a departure airport for Halkidiki / Thessaloniki this summer flying on a Monday at 06.10. Great news for people living in the south west saving the drive to Gatwick. Good news for Halkidiki too as this will bring more people in as Thomson cancelled this flight several years ago. Also it is a good flight time as you Could be at Maki's for lunchby Metaxa357 - Halkidiki

Re: HANIOTI / BELLA GRECIA HOTEL - 11 years ago
As David said it is about 15mins and makes a lovely stroll before finding someplace to eat in the evening. I always stayed in Pefkohori in the past but for the few years have stayed at Bella Grecia. Panos the owner is a great guy and will look after you during your holiday. They have a website www.bella-grecia.grby Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
Re: Nude sunbathing - 12 years ago
Hi Jacqueline, There is a beach called Golden Beach which is a few miles past Pefkohori, It is a nice sandy beach with pine trees surrounding the area. This beach in the past was known for nude sunbathing and was popular with the German tourists at the time. If you take the Paliouri bus ask to stop at the three brothers taverna which is on the main road and you can then walk down to the beachby Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
Re: Bella Grecia Hanioti - 13 years ago
Hi Nicola, As Richie said it is just before Hanioti and about a 15 - 20 min walk using the old lower road to Hanioti centre. I am sure if you go you will have a nice time, Panos and his family are wonderful and will really make you welcome. They have a website if you have not yet found it Bella Grecia which has a google map so you can see where it is.by Metaxa357 - Halkidiki

Re: FERRY FROM THESSALONIKI TO SKIATHOS / SKOPELOS - 13 years ago
Not sure if it is still running but a few years ago there was a Flying Dolphin (fast boat!) going to Skiathos from Neu Moudania. Looking at the ferry websites I think most ferries from Thessaloniki go to Crete. Another way to get to Skiathos is to take the bus to Volos and then ferry to Skiathos. They run regularly from Volos.by Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
Re: Money transfer - 13 years ago
Another company to try is Moneycorp. We have used them previously to transfer from the UK but may be worth asking. It should also be relatively easy by using a Greek bank account providing they are helpful with the paperwork!by Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
Re: saltwater fishing - 13 years ago
Hello, Charter fishing boats are really non existent in Hanioti and Pefkohori (perhaps a new business opportunity!) As Ian said you can hire a motor boat which would get you out on the water. Fishing tackle shops have improved in the area over the years and Thomson did advertise a fishing trip on their excursions but was told at the time it was not available. Most people tend to fish from the shoby Metaxa357 - Halkidiki

Hello Alan, If you are staying at Aeollos then you will find that themis also has a menu within the hotel and normally has a bbq once a week. His T Bone steaks are the best!! If you come out of the hotel and head to the sea front there is a place called bakalis which also has a good menu and you can just sit and relax looking out to sea. If you wander up to the old village square there is alsoby Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
Re: exchange rate - 15 years ago
Hi, The exchange rate is pretty much the same as it is in the UK. I use a nationwide flexaccount card which does not charge you for cash withdrawal's abroad so this is a good option as you can make withdrawals as and when required without the need to take over loads of money and lose out if the rate changes whilst you are away. Not to sure about the tattoo shops!!by Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
Re: info on hanioti - 15 years ago
Thalassa is another nice resturant for you to try. It is down near the church near the seafront. A nice meal is always served there.by Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
Re: Bella Grecia Hotel Villa, Hanioti - 15 years ago
You should have a great time at Bella Grecia. Panos cooks a lovely breakfast! The beach is close by although the pool at bella grecia is great for chilling out and having a few drinks at the bar. A good place to eat in Hanioti for a nice meal is Thalassa which is down on the front near the church. Also Garrys Gyros of the main square is great for snacks. Have a nice time.by Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
Re: Nationwide cash card NOW in Greece - 16 years ago
Hello Jane, If you are staying for a while it may be worth opening a Greek bank account with the National Bank of Greece in Kassandria (you just need your passport and a deposit for the opening balance.) Then use a company like moneycorp who can transfer larger amounts direct from the UK to the Greek account at very good rates. I have used them recently and they were very good.by Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
Re: Nights out in Pefkahori !!!!!!!!! - 17 years ago
Hello Neil, I am sure you will have a great time in Pefkohori. My favourite places are Makis in the old square which has a more original feel and atmosphere. Also bakalis (I think that is the correct name!)which is situated on the front, from the front look out to sea with the pier on your left then turn right and wander along the front its a fair way along and is next door to another tavernaby Metaxa357 - Halkidiki
