Hi
Jan (wife) and I are going to hotel Theoxenia, North West of Ouranoupolis late September and wondered if any one has advice on car hire, where the nearest garage is and what the laws are re: walking in the countryside around there. (I know her indoors can't venture SouthEast to Athos, nor me, without the proper papers!)

Guess I'm going to say snap here. We should arrive on the 3rd October for two weeks walking and hopefully some birdwatching.
We have friends who stayed at this hotel last year and the year before and they said it was a good area for walking - and that the food at the hotel was great after a long day.
We've been all over Greece and have had no problems walking anywhere, local people are always happy to help you out if you look lost - even on the odd occasion when you end up in the middle of their allotment!
Look out for us we'll be the ones with binoculars and rucksacs.
