General discussion and questions about Halkidiki.
Re: traditional taverna near Paliouri needed for wedding reception. - 16 years ago
Paliouri is quite small - I'd describe it as as close as you can get to a traditional Greek village on Halkidiki except perhaps Kassandrinho and old Fourka. It isn't on the sea, though. There are three or four Tavernas in the square, they look OK although I haven't tried them. Sorry, don't know anything about dancing on Mondays. I wouldn't bank on it, especially in September where things definateby DaveS - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti - 16 years ago
Day trips are easy, there's at least one travel agency in Hanioti that has trips eg to Thessaloniki, Meteora, Petralona caves, and others. The reps also sell them, usually with a mark up. I know there are several care hire places in Hanioti, also email Sakis at kriopigi cars, sales @kriopigi.net, he has a good reputation and I'm sure drops off at Hanioti. About 30 euros a day I think. Re: 10day Forecast for Polichrono? - 16 years ago
Try this - for Afitos, half a dozen kilometres up the coast from Polychrono. Gives the best long term (up to 15 days) that I can find. |GR|GR000|AFITOS&metric=1by DaveS - Halkidiki

Re: Map of Pefkohori, and places to go? - 16 years ago
OK, here's some tourist blurb courtesy of Ioli village... The beautiful peninsula of Kassandra is famous for having organized beaches that are set in lush forested areas. It is also the ideal destination for party goers since it offers all types of entertainment venues such as taverns, restaurants, bars, cafes and clubs, as well as a number of impressive historical and religious sites in theby DaveS - Halkidiki
Re: Weekly Markets. - 16 years ago
Thanks Jane, we will have a car so will probably follow up some of your leads. Have been to the Sweet coffee shop (what an angel Sakis is). I can picture many of the places you mention but have never tried them so we'll be a bit more adventurous this time. cheersby DaveS - Halkidiki

Re: Things to do ...... - 16 years ago
yep, going back to Ioli village for third time in Sept. Rooms are basic but quite spacious, kept very clean. Breakfasts available for extra. Small bar. Anna the receptionist is very helpful. Appliances limited to kettle, teapot, two ring hotplate, cutlery, crocks and pots and not much else (typical of Greece). Small shop on site but two big supermarkets just round the corner plus a fruit/veg shopby DaveS - Halkidiki
Re: loli village - 17 years ago
yes, going again in September. Been twice before and can't wait. It's fairly basic but spacious and clean. There's other threads on Ioli village with more information, if you go back a bit.by DaveS - Halkidiki
Re: loli village - 17 years ago
Transfer by coach about two hours, depending on earlier drop offs. By car about an hour and a half. It's quite a nice drive, we enjoy it and stop off at Afitos for a bite to eat on way down. Ioli village website is www.iolivillage-halkidiki.com you can email Anna at iolivillage@otenet.grby DaveS - Halkidiki

Re: loli village - 17 years ago
Ioli Village is fine, we are going there again (our third time) this year. Its up at the northern end of the viallage, about five minutes to the beach, same to the centre of town. Rooms quite spacious, kept nice and clean. Facilities fairly basic and typical for Greece - the usual two ring cooking thing, kettle, teapot, cutlery, crockery, fridge. No oven. Swimming pool and poolside bar are fairlby DaveS - Halkidiki
Re: Pefkohori IMPORTANT - 17 years ago
We've stayed there twice, I think the room numbers were 306 and 315 but I'm, not sure. They overlook the courtyard. The rooms are the same size wherever you are in IV apart from some suites which are extra cost and include breakfast. Unless you pick this option via the tour operator, you won't be in a suite. I'd probably prefer not to have one of the rooms that back on to the road but that'sby DaveS - Halkidiki
Re: Pefkohori IMPORTANT - 17 years ago
Karen, hi. Ioli village apartments are I would say fairly basic but spacious and kept clean. The swimming pool is OK, depending on what time of the season you go it can be a scrum for a sunlounger or you can get the place to yourself! I don't think you need to worry about lorries at 7am. It isn't on a main road. It's on a side road which basically goes nowhere very much - at least for trafficby DaveS - Halkidiki
