Hi everyone,

Just returned from Polichrono (booooooooooooooo) Jun 4th - 18th 2007......
Brilliant holiday, lovely place, lovely people, great accomodation.
We stayed in a studio for two which was quite basic but very clean and big enough for what we wanted, cleaners are very friendly in every day with new sheets and towels every three days. It looked to us that the apartments on the other side of the pool were more modern and spacious with pool facing balconies, but the price we paid was good and no one we spoke to was dissapointed with the accomodation.

When we got there the pool and resort were very quiet but by week two it was picking up and was fairly busy when we left, the pool area is a decent size and the snacks limited but drinks cheap enough. Kostas is typical Greek hotellier, doesn't speak a lot of english but understands more than he lets on, his daughter welcomed us there and Alex the barman speaks better English, he's the person to ask if you want the aircon remote control (it is free). Theres a nice family atmosphere to the place and they now have little Saki the dog (watchout he may lick your face when your asleep by the pool ha ha). Kostas will change travellers cheques for you and he'll like you more if you go to his weekly BBQ, 10 Euros quite steep given the prices of food in the village but worth it to mingle a bit and there's a quiz afterwards (we woz robbed).... the people staying there were great and made it for us (hello everyone if youre out there!!!), there's a good atmosphere and the pool bar is open late usually til about 3 is the residents are about.

There are trips available through Thomson, we went on the Markets and Mountains which was ok but a long day, worth it almost to see Mr Sogandas and and the view from the mountains and youve got to have a bit wild boar steak, I particularly liked the wine!! Mixed reviews from most trips but the rep Dan wasn't pushy at all, a really nice young lad compared to all the reps I've ever met, he's around a lot and although we never had any problems I never heard a bad word said about him, whereas we heard other people moaning about their reps.

Polichrono is very greek, touristy in parts but lots and lots of Authentic Greek restaurants with big menu'd and lots of choice, the prices are great too, we usually spent around 30/40 euro's for a two course meal for two with drinks, try Flegra, Aypa, the Steakhouse (upstairs) all good and likely to come with free desert or drink afterwards.... we're now very fat. The Tropical bar and Sunrise bar are quite lively and the Three Lions is good for football and English cider......For British grub the cockney cafe is great (huge portions) Its a family orientated resort but great for young couples like us, not so good for groups of younger lads or lasses but Hanioti 5 mins away in a taxi is much livlier, although family orientated too there are more music bars (try the Long Island cocktail Bar, Sunshine Bar and Kelfos) restaurants there are good to the Maharaji Indian was fab and La Romantica does great mexican and mixed food. For nightclubs try Kalithea or Pefkohori.

Warning, mosquito's everywhare so get to the supermarket for plugs straight away and spray with a good spray on your body before you go out, although they still got us.....the chemist was good for some nice soothing cream...

But whats an itch or two among friends, ha ha. We would definitely go back again in years to come when we've got family maybe, would recommend Halkidiki to anyone, something for everyone.

Thats us for another year thouroughly depressed and full of holiday blues....

If any of the Bolton brigade are out there, or Dotty and Tony, hello, hope your not as blue as us.
Those lucky ducks from Crewe are still there...... lets hope theyv'e got some unsuspecting victims to splash this week....

Hi Emma, Ross

Many thanks for your fantastic review, the resort and accommodation sound fantastic.
We're so looking forward to going there soon, not that you really want to hear that! sad smiley
Good news the free aircon - extra euros for food and drink.
We booked our flights and acommodation seperately so i hope they are expecting us! lol
You've really answered many of our questions in your review, but wondered if you would be so kind as to answer the following for us -
Are there any safety deposit boxes?
And what is the taxi cost to neighbouring resorts?

Thanks very much in advance for your time and again thank you for your review.

Hiya Emma and Ross hope you are OK - the Bolton crew all say hi and we are all as blue as you are cant believe we have been back nearly a week. Hope going back to work wasnt too bad!!!

Had a fab holiday at the Royal Kostas and like you said the people there were great we had some good laughs and lots of beer.

We had a 1 bed apartment for 4 of us and there was plenty of room - not much scope for cooking but who wants to cook on their holidays. All the staff there were really nice and the cleaners worked really hard 6 days a week.

There are plenty of restaurants and a few bars to keep you going - we enjoyed the upstairs steak house (cant remember the name) you get a brandy or ouzo on the house, the cockney cafe for huge portions. I mentioned these coz my nan who is 86 had a fall on our 3rd day and cut her leg and had trouble walking for the rest of the holiday and the waiters from both these places gave her a lift back to the apartments.

Another good thing about Polychrono is you dont have all these people at the bars and restaurants mithering you to come in which you find in loads of places these days - its really laid back.

Anyway enough waffling - Kim and Trev have a fab time and there are safety deposit boxes at the apartments just ask Kostas - he's the grumpy looking one but he's OK really. Taxi to Hanioti is about 5 Euros and there is a taxi rank just over the main road or if you get friendly with the staff they will ring one for you.

Emma and Ross keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on!!!!
