Re: Places to avoid and places highly recommended - 16 years ago
Hi Jeff I was in Fourka in June and it was still the Yiamas bar then. The Chill Out bar is on the beach, part of the Litsa complex and owned by Giannis. Hope that helps. By the way I agree about the crepe bar, got an extra dollop of ice cream to melt over the hot crepe..yummy. Best wishes Kim Ps: Jane, I know the cake shop, at the top of the hill where the road junctions are. Didn't try theby caron - Halkidiki

yasou and a kalimera to you Jeff It was the sandals...no, only joking. Maybe you and my hubby could get jobs at the Yiamas bar, and replace those two statues outside. I think the true collective words for a group of mozzies is 'Little Buggers'. Aye, the little buggers were a real nuisance this year...so,please anyone going to Fourka don't kill those beetles, whatever colour shape or size,by caron - Halkidiki

Hi Jeff Just viewed your pics. Is there something in the water in Fourka, probably beer, or is it in the bottles...who knows. It sure seems to be catching though, like you, my hubby has long (grey) hair and wears black sandals(check out the gallery). I bet you have an history with motorbikes too! (excuse my ignorance if you may have stated this in a thread andf I have missed it. I've just gotby caron - Halkidiki

It is only a minority of people, if you want to class them as so, that do these things. There are lovely Greek people, and lets not class them with the ignorant minority, out there who are appalled at this. Tasula, at the Iris cafe is one of them, in fact all tips left are donated to Julies cause. (This has come about due to the drop in trade within the area, thats a different story to do withby caron - Halkidiki

Hello Jonelle The Julia apartments are off and away from the main road, going into the town, it has a long path up to the apartments. Your backdrop is the woodland area, the footpath to the woods runs alongside. They have a lovely clear swimming pool, and a small bar that serves snacks. 5 mins along the main road (no pavement) is a large yellow supermarket, open 7 days a week. Yoby caron - Halkidiki

Lizzy Its no problem, glad to help. You said your hubby is diabetic...please please please watch out for those irritating little blighters The Mozzys. Im not a diabetic myself, but I know how badly I can react to a couple of bites on my feet (arms or anywhere else no probs). I usually sit with my feet in a bucket of cold water (aaaah bliss). Arm yourself well, because this year I never heardby caron - Halkidiki

Hi Jonelle I know what you mean about breaking your heart. As Jane says Please please please donate whatever you can, those euro coins that are wearing holes in your pockets help. Where abouts are you staying, maybe you are not too far from Iris Cafe? Could you please do me a favour. There were two dogs, recently abandoned, a black and whire one and a tan one. They were only young and looked loby caron - Halkidiki

Jane I hope your Labrador enjoys her walks, and she is entitiled to. Please be careful though with her, you know about the poison. Careful when your walking her too, possibly the only other dogs you will see on a lead with an OWNER is lap size ones. And the owners tend to panic if anything bigger with four legs gets close. Im glad to say that even though the innocents are abandoned, they canby caron - Halkidiki

Have just been issued with this telephone number for the Iris Cafe (0030) 23740 43566. Ask to speak to Tasula (the lady who owns the cafe). By the way she does some lovely home cooking, and is fluent in German & English (along with her mother tongue of Greek).by caron - Halkidiki

Edited email from Julie to Kim: : In 1999 Julie started sterilizing stray dogs in Fourka Beach. : She tries to rehome dogs and puppies that cannot live on the streets. The ones that have been poisoned, injured in accidents, or hanging around in 'Packs' but can adjust to life in a good home. : Animal welfare workers are accused of selling dogs for the fur trade or vivisection. Nic Your idea is brilliant. I too love animals, had a dog for 16 years and a cat for 15, sadly both passed away with illnesses, some years ago. My life style now won't allow me to keep a pet, maybe when I retire and stop (cut down on) travelling it will be different. And, any ideas that are like yours I think would be welcomed. Another idea would be some kind of 'adoption' scheme until the dogby caron - Halkidiki

I love visiting Halkidiki, mainly the resort of Fourka. However, my heart goes out to the abandoned dogs continually left by heartless people. Many of these dogs, not strays - they haven't strayed off they have been abandoned - are pedigrees too. They are abandoned because it would seem their size continues to grow bigger than a tiny breed of dog. For goodness sake do these people not know to looby caron - Halkidiki

Hi Jeff Never managed to get to have a drink at the Yammas this time round (took a couple of elderly relatives not liking to drink out at night(give me strength), only on the balcony - never again). Did you ever go to it when it was 'The Net' Bar...hmmmm those chicken breasts they did were beaten into submission. Roll on next year, I'll pop in for a drink..or two.by caron - Halkidiki

Hello Lizzy I have just traveled with XL (Fourka 31.05-14.06) so hope this info helps you and others. I flew with XL (Manchester airport). Meals are not provided, but hot and cold snacks are. Prices start at around £1 for a packet of nibbles to £3.50p for a sandwich roll (vegetarian also provided for). There are also hot and cold drinks. Cup o Soups are £2, teas/coffees/hot chocolate I thinkby caron - Halkidiki
