Re: flight only to thessaloniki - 17 years ago
I flew from Gatwick this year too even though East Mids is my nearest airport, got a good price on flight only through B.A (& they fly pretty much every day so you're not tied)& airports do a coach link so you can get the bus from your local airport to Gatwick.I got a 2wk return flight, return coach transfers between airports AND a taxi from Thessalonika airport to resort for £30 less thanby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Jobs - Kassandra - 17 years ago
no problem getting work in the summer months but as the whole peninsula pretty much closes in the winter then there's nothing to do unless you learn Greek & maybe chance getting a job in Thessaloniki! If you're in a position to be able to not have to work in the winter then that's great but otherwise it can be very boring & remember the winters there can be pretty much the same as they arby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: kriopigi - 17 years ago
Must have seen you there if you went in Casablanca,i arrived home yesterday, looking for flights again already haha.by Kerry - Halkidiki

Still no change....no ATM's in Kriopigi i'm afraid, stick with changing your euros here(exchange rate is the same as over there)by Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Afitos - lots of info required - 17 years ago
You've heard right about Afitos,it's a beautiful village & the bars along the front are brilliant for chilling out at night, overlooking the next peninsula which is all lit up & you see quite a few shooting stars up there too.Honestly not one single resort on the peninsula is like Blackpool in the sun,Kalithea is livelier if you want a change of pace but all the resorts are worth a visit &by Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Hot Goblin Chippy - 17 years ago
Hi Steve I worked there when Effie & Gregory had it,Kostas was their son & was back in Australia when i was there.Yes Effie was a character but i don't think i remember her as the same character you do...............BIG difference between being a customer & working for her but past is past!!!!! I've seen you post about the central cafe before & i'll be visiting friends in Haniotby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Hot Goblin Chippy - 17 years ago
The chippy was advertised for sale on here last year, have no idea if the rumours are true about casinos & stuff but i agree i hope they don't sell the spud place,i worked there years ago(before Leigh got it) & it was always packed out!Wouldn't pay too much attention to the chinese whispers........Greeks love a good gossip haha xby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Bubbles - 17 years ago
Not really Amy,obviously there are gay people there but there isn't really a gay scene like there is here(no specific gay bars or anything if that's what your after!not that i know of anyway & i've been going for 20 yrs.x )by Kerry - Halkidiki

Re: Kriopigi, Hanioti or Kalithea? - 17 years ago
Kriopigi go see Sakis at the Akropolis restaurant for car hire.Places to visit then depends on what you like, historical sights?then there are plenty of organised trips to go on,if however you just want to do some general exploring then visiting the other resorts is easy as it's one main road goes the length of the peninsula & there are some lovely places to see or you could drive to the nextby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Just got back from Kriopigi - 17 years ago
1 week to go!!!!!!!! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOW excited am i?!?xxxby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Just got back from Kriopigi - 17 years ago
I agree with everything Jane said reg the resort & also that Hanioti is a busier alternative although Kriopigi does have music bars(not clubs) that play up to date stuff & stay open til the early hours if however you want more "clubby" places then jump in a taxi & ask for Bubbles in Kalithea, that's my fave place but there are several other clubs & late night bars along tby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Weather - 17 years ago
Lyn i've heard the same as Jane regarding weather from my Greek friends in Halkidiki, unfortunately nobody can predict the weather so pack a small brolly anyway but going on past years(20) you're not likely to need it,as Jane says you can get the odd storm but usually overnight & it only tends to happen when the heat gets to that unbearable, uncomfortable sticky stage so it's more than welcome!by Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Outdoor markets - 17 years ago
Moudania market is well worth a visit,it's in Nea Moudania & the place itself is worth a look round, visit the market(some fab stuff, really cheap)then stay in Moudania for lunch, you'll get round really easily by car,it's pretty much 1 main road goes the whole length of the peninsula or if you don't fancy driving both markets are easily reached by bus.Moudania market is on a Wednesday & seeby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Kriopigi - 17 years ago
Ahh lovely, wish someone would surprise me like that haha,i'll probably see you there then if you venture to Casablanca or Akropolis!xby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti in July - 17 years ago
Sorry Gem Hanioti lovely, just busy enough LOADS of restaurants, fast food places, snack bars, shops & bars(not clubs)Shops usually close around 11p.m-midnight,bars as Paul said stay open til everyone has had enough & gone home,no set closing times, really good resort with plenty of choice to suit all tastes, enough bars to go in,some pretty chilled & laid back, others more lively with fabby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti in July - 17 years ago
Paul sea urchins horrible spikey buggers they are, hurt like hell if you stand(or god forbid SIT on one coz their spikes break off!!!!!) People i know have had experiences with them butr in the 20 years i've been going i've never been "spiked" but i have seen them.by Kerry - Halkidiki

Re: First Trip to Halkidiki - 17 years ago
Hiya can't comment on your hotel i'm afraid but i'm sure someone can help or look on www.holidaysexposed.com or www.holidaysuncovered.com Kalithea is one of if not the busiest resorts in Halkidiki, lots of shops, cafe bars, music bars & restaurants & fast food places, can get a bit manic at weekends but then so can the rest of Halkidiki as it's where a lot of Greeks go for their weekend breakby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: SIMM cards - 17 years ago
You can do mine for me then Jane haha Had a nokia last year,Motorola this year!See ya soon, only 2 weeks to go!xby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: thunder storms. - 17 years ago
Don't know what the weather forecast is but basically they can happen anytime but nothing to worry about as they usually only happen when it gets very hot, muggy & sticky & they happen overnight so by morning you'd never know it had rained.xby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Kriopigi - 17 years ago
Kriopigi lovely, not too lively, transfer time anything between 1hr & 1 half hours depending on drop offs on the way.Hill down to the beach but there is a mini bus & a little train that will pick you up & take you down or walk down & get mini bus back up.Your hotel's very nice & has plenty of entertainment on but as it's part way down the hill i wouldn't recomend heels as all thby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: SIMM cards - 17 years ago
you can buy Greek sim cards at most supermarkets,i tried a Vodafone one in mine last year & it wouldn't work but there are others available, might be worth trying a friends card in your phone when you get over there so you know which to buy & also get someone to do it for you as obviously the instructions are just in Greek.xby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Just got back from Kriopigi - 17 years ago
Hiya Debs i'll be there in 2 weeks as you know!!!! Yippeeeeeeeeee can't wait, love to everyone.xxxby Kerry - Halkidiki

Re: Just got back from Kriopigi - 17 years ago
Don't know much about the rooms of your hotel as i always rent a room from friends when i go over but they're very nice by all accounts.Weather should be fab, rang Greece this morning & it was very hot but i always stick a small brolly in anyway but not likely to need it.Greeks not the most considerate drivers but i know lots of people that have rented cars & had no problems but i definateby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: Transfers to Hanioti - 17 years ago
Sakis is right about the price, should be no more than 60-70 euros each way,i arrived early hours of the morning last year & ALWAYS have a taxi, never had any problems getting one as there is a big taxi rank just near where the coaches park at the airport, usually a queue of taxis there but most i've ever had to wait is 5mins.Another option is to ask any of the reps that will be milling about ifby Kerry - Halkidiki
Re: toilets - 17 years ago
If you're staying in a new built place then usually yes you can but otherwise it's still paper in the bin i'm afraid, take scented nappy sacks it makes the whole experience a lot more pleasant haha.by Kerry - Halkidiki
