Anybody looking for a house rental in Halkidiki? - 13 years ago
We rented our house for two years, but due to health and financial reasons we are returning to the UK after one year. The house we believe can be rented for an indefinite amount of years. Therefore, if anybody is looking for a nice house to rent we can recommend this one. It has three floors. Ground floor is lounge/kitchen/dining room with a large patio outside with grassed area beyond lookingby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: New live streaming Halkidiki Webcam on line - 13 years ago
To everyone else, the performance of streaming webcams relies in a great part to the amount of band width available. Here in Greece especially in rural areas we have very low band width. So please be patient when viewing the images. When I release a user name and password to be able to pan and tilt the camera some delays in this operation will be inevitable due to band width limitations. Rby Jane - Halkidiki

Steve, Did you match the log in type with your browser on the log in page? There are two ways to log in depending on which browser you have. For internet explorer you must use the top log in where you enter the user name and password, then click log on. Or the bottom method for Firefox, Opera, Safari etc., where you first click the log in button when a box will open to enter the user nameby Jane - Halkidiki

New live streaming Halkidiki Webcam on line - 13 years ago
Just testing out a new webcam. It is located at our home in Possidi, Kassandra. It is mounted at the rear of our house and looks down the garden and across the valley to the olive groves beyond. It is pan and tilt camera, but the use of this feature will not be available to visitors during the testing phase. I will move the camera to show a different live view each day. Re: HELP !!! kittens in Halkidiki - 13 years ago
Still got three kittens desperate for a good home. Still having to lock them up at night separate from their mum, fox returns every night. Weekend kids are also a bane, so if anyone can give a kitten a home please pm me urgently. Thanks.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: HELP !!! kittens in Halkidiki - 13 years ago
update, little kitten returned tonight, obviously ran away in time. So pleased. We still need homes for these three kittens, either temporary for a few weeks, or permanent. Please contact me if you can help. We are locking them in at night without their mum for now, which is a bit traumatic, but safer for the kittens. We have no way of keeping them safe other than this as we have no fencing, gatiby Jane - Halkidiki
HELP !!! kittens in Halkidiki - 13 years ago
"our" cat had four kittens. One has been rehomed and one got killed last night by a fox. We have all our visiting kids who are constantly playing with them, and we can't lock them in on their own they cry, with mum she cries. We need a foster home for 2-3 weeks til they can be rehomed. They are eating and drinking and can leave mum. Anyone who can help us. We have nowhere secure to lockby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: How warm is it in the evening? - 13 years ago
I would bring a jacket. Some evenings lately have been pretty warm, up to 18-19 deg at 10pm, but if there is a cold wind around, like today, we never got above 16.5 all day and the wind is chilly. The forecast, depending where you look ! is pretty good next week, but I would still say a jacket in the evening is needed in May.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Snakes and repellant - 13 years ago
Mr Steve, don't worry too much. We have been coming for 30 years and have seen the odd large grass snake crossing the road. We stayed in hotels for many years with huge gardens around and never saw any. We are on our third rental house and I think this time as we are a couple of miles away from the sea, and up in the olive groves, that is why we have seen some. And that is why neighbours have theby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Snakes and repellant - 14 years ago
Hi Joanne, thanks for that. I spoke to several people today and there are apparently vipers and adders about. I bought two snake repellant jars that are not harmful for dogs, so all should be OK. Cross fingers. Already seen the scorpion when we arrived ! I worry more for my dog than me, lol.......by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Where is Sakis????? - 14 years ago
I believe I saw him starting to do the Acropolis up the other day ready to open. I also believe, though not confirmed, that he has only recently had a bereavement in his family. If that is so, Sakis accept our condolences and we will see you very soon. Jane and Martynby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Snakes and repellant - 14 years ago
yes they have snakes ! We have often seen the large grass type snakes, but today it was more likely an adder or viper, only a small one, but nevertheless a bit unnerving! I don't think there is much of a problem by the sea, don't worry, we have been coming 30 years and it is only that we are now renting a house about two miles from the sea up in the hills surrounded by olive groves which appearby Jane - Halkidiki
Snakes and repellant - 14 years ago
Right folks, this is our first time living more in the countryside than near the sea. We notice neighbours have Herpetex snake repellent jars outside their houses! Today we saw a small snake, not sure what it was. Our query is, is the Herpetex repellant jar safe to have if you have a dog. We don't want to poison or harm our dog, but we would prefer not to have snakes in the garden. Anyone who haby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: *3 bedroom houses wanted for long term rent** - 14 years ago
I dont reccomend a place by the sea as in the colder wet months there will be more flies and mozzies Having lived by the sea for two years 2007 and 2008, and now living in the countryside about a mile or so from the sea, I can say that the flies, wasps and mozzies are worse in the countryside area than ever it was at the beach. We found that living by the beach there is generally a slight breby Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Weather - 14 years ago
I don't think being Northern Greece makes the weather any less reliable in the summer months than down South. So I wouldnt worry too much. It can get cold spells anywhere in the world nowadays and you just have to trust to luck.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Animal cruelty THROUGHOUT GREECE - 14 years ago
Hi Antoni, good to know that there are some municipalities that are doing something positive. I must admit I do get disheartened when over here at the apparent lack of support from local mayors etc. A good friend here in Halkidiki had her dog poisoned on New Years Eve, and she works tirelessly to help stray dogs, rehome them, neuter them etc. A cruel twist of fate for someone who has for many yeaby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Animal cruelty THROUGHOUT GREECE - 14 years ago
Antonis, while I agree there are many cruel people in every country of the world, the fact remains that in Greece there is the highest per capita cases of animal abuse of anywhere in Europe. I am of Greek descent so I am not anti Greek by any means, but in my thirty years of visiting after a slow move forwards I feel the situation is now moving backwards again. Re: No more sewage into the seas of Halkidiki - 14 years ago
hmmm, not so sure about that Tom ! I would love not to have to go traipsing to the bin every day, twice a day, with a bin full of ughhh paper !! I understand about the old houses and sewage system, but now there is a new one and where we rented last time was connected to it and a fairly new build, I think it ought to bring Greece up to the standards of other EU countries on that count. Please if you are an animal lover, read this - 14 years ago
- please read this link We all love Greece, we all love Halkidiki, and I am sure we all know that there is a real problem in Greece (along with other countries around the EU and world) with attitudes to animals, strays etc. However, this incident happened in Olympia and so far the police are saying that it was an accident. Nationwide exchange rate - 14 years ago
Anyone living over there who uses the Nationwide Flex account to obtain euros, can you tell me the latest rate you got? Even if it was a month ago, just to give me an idea please. Thanksby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: No more sewage into the seas of Halkidiki - 14 years ago
Great News. Now as you say we just need people to throw their litter in the many many bins, and not leave it to others to pick up after them. Halkidiki is beautiful and those who visit should do their best to keep it litter free (I know lots of Greeks also litter, and they need to clean their act up too). Now there is a proper sewage system and many new build houses, does that mean an end inby Jane - Halkidiki

Hi you two Sorry forgot all about letting you know what we found. Nothing ! There are lots of places to rent holiday season, and there are loads of places for sale, but you know all that. We drove round the whole peninsular one day but didnt see anything in the areas you want. Good luck anyway. We are off over in February so may meet you sometime next year. Janeby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Man with a van - 14 years ago
We got various quotes from various companies, but went with a local one in Derbyshire. The quotes ranged from around 600 (wrapped in bubble wrap) through to over 1200 collected from home and delivered to home in Halk. Our local one delivers to Thessaloniki via Mondial, a company we have used before for shipping a bike over. So we need to collect, but it is in a made to measure box which is beiby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Man with a van - 14 years ago
Thank you Phil, will try him We went with our local exporter, again. As they did such a good job last time with a brilliant made to measure box we thought we would use them again, but this time recycle the box for the return journey, whenever that may be ! We bought our Silverwing out there in 2007, but it was very expensive and of course you cannot buy easily second hand. We managed to gby Jane - Halkidiki

Hi I know there is a man with a van over there, but just cannot find the past messages! We will need some help when we come over Feb/March time. Basically we will probably need to bring from Thessaloniki a small fridge, a 3 seater settee and a large wooden box (disassembled of course) which our motorbike arrived in.
