Hi The first two weeks in August are no doubt the busiest time, but the 'festival' is not an event as such, but just a series of cultural things going on - singing/dancing performances in the square etc. As a place it is definitely not like Benidorm, it has managed to retain a bit of old world charm and has plenty of good restaurants and chilled out bars. Not a disco in sight. My wife and I fby Mathew - Halkidiki

Re: Eating Out In Athitos - 15 years ago
Hi, also try Gastronomia. There's also a place with orange table cloths (sorry don't know what it's called), which is on the 'balcony' overlooking the beaches, where I've always had a nice meal - good views too. Christos is always good and they are very friendly. There is also a very quiet place called 'Piementos', or something like that, in one of the side streets. Hardly ever anyone there, butby Mathew - Halkidiki
Re: HELP NEEDED ON AFITOS - 17 years ago
In a restaurant you're looking at around 30 euros for 2 people to eat well with wine. Drinks in the bars tend be about 2.5/3 euros for a large beer - more expensive in the 'balcony' bars which overlook the sea, where you'll pay 3 euros for a small bottle of beer. You'll pay much less if you go to one of the Gyros/take away places, which all have seating and less still in the shops - 60 cents forby Mathew - Halkidiki
Re: HELP NEEDED ON AFITOS - 17 years ago
Afitos is a lovely village, quiet, but with plenty of bars and places to eat. Livelier places are just a few euros in a taxi away. Have a look at afytos.net for pictures and more info.by Mathew - Halkidiki
Re: Whats the prices like for food - 17 years ago
Hi Jane, in a restaurant two people can eat out very well for 30 euros with wine. Of course you can pay more or less, a lot of places do set menus if that's what you're after. For drinks - large beers tend to be about 2.5/3 euros in bars. Spirits can be fairly expensive at about 5-6 euros. But you can pay more or less - depends on whether you want a beachfront bar, or are happy to sit outside a tby Mathew - Halkidiki

Can't think of a single reason, Phil!! Good luck with getting your place fitted out and enjoy your trip. Mathewby Mathew - Halkidiki
Re: Afitos or Kriopigi??? - 17 years ago
Anko, there is more in Athitos than there is in Kriopigi. Athitos is a lovely village with plenty of restaurants and bars, but nothing too 'clubby.' It is a relaxed village, with charm and character and lovely beaches. If you did fancy some livelier nights out, there are the big clubs just outside Kallithea - a couple of miles and a few euros in a taxi, or Hanioti, which is the busiest resort,by Mathew - Halkidiki
Re: electricity gas - 17 years ago
Phil, I'm afraid I can't be of much to help to you as I was lucky that the developer helped us to do this. It's not entirely straightforward. I believe the electricity company is in Nea Moudania and for the water I remember having to go to a municipal office by the Police station in Kassandria.by Mathew - Halkidiki
Re: Purchase washing machine - 17 years ago
Phil, yes, Maria keeps an eye on it for us. It was probably my in-laws you met, as I remember them saying they spoke to someone who was looking to buy. I've got a rough idea where you are - the other side of the village. Nice views over there. We'll be over for the whole of June, so if you're there then, get Maria to point us out on the beach and we'll compare notes on furniture deliveries!by Mathew - Halkidiki
Re: Purchase washing machine - 17 years ago
Phil, I didn't search that hard, but I couldn't find van hire - it's all geared up for the tourist car hire, so relied on deliveries. You'd get one in Thessaloniki, but I don't know where. The only thing I can think of, apart from asking a local, and It is probably a long shot, as it's not their usual line of work, but someone on the staff of the British Embassy might know. They probably live locby Mathew - Halkidiki
Re: Purchase washing machine - 17 years ago
John and Phil, I have a place in Athitos and got all my furniture from Ikea - who deliver (they'll wait until they have van full for Halkidiki before they'll deliver - it took 10 days for our stuff to arrive, so maybe factor that in, if you have to go back to the UK). As others have explained, Ikea is right by the airport. On the same shopping park, there's a shop that is a large Curry's/Comet -by Mathew - Halkidiki
