Long shot here but we had a starter a few times on holiday which is a baked spicy feta, in the Garden and Arhontiko. Does anyone know what the greek name for this dish is so that I can find a recipe for it?

Many thanks if you can help.

Hi PhilCCFC

Saganaki Kaftero is called , cooked and served in some different ways.
Here is how my mum makes it.

You choose a piece of feta cheese about 1- 1,half cm thick
In a ceramic pan you put 2-3 spoons of pure virgin olive oil.
Then you put 2-3 red tomato slices.
On top of the tomato slices you put some chilly (hot) green peppers cut them in rings
As well as some slices of garlic.
On top of all this you put the feta cheese with some oregano.
Leave it in a hot oven for about 8-10 min.
Once starts getting a colour and teh olive oil starts to be hot is almost ready.
Served with hot pita bread or slices of bread cooked like toasted covered with virgin olive oil and oregano.
A glass of ouzo is a good “partner" followed by a mythos beer !!

Can I ask an off topic but food-name related question? tongue sticking out smiley

We have these things that we call "djevrek" but I have never tried them sweet until in Greece! with tons of crystal sugar on them (instead of the sesame that you see in this pic)

Can you tell me the Greek name for the thingie? grinning smiley

Hi
Does your mum have a good recipe for kleftiko and stifado? I have tried kleftiko in different parts of the Greek islands but the ones I had in Halkidiki were the best!
