General discussion and questions about Halkidiki.
Re: Kriopigi - Alkion Studios - 15 years ago
Vicki Can recommend Avon Skin so Soft Dry Oil Body Spray in Soft and Fresh for mosquitos - they hate it! Last year I used it and did not get bitten once! And I usually get bitten a lot! If you do have the misfortune to be bitten, make sure you bring some After Bite or Tea Tree Oil/Witch Hazel with you - takes the itch away! Have a great holiday Lisaby figaro - Halkidiki

Mythos is a lovely beer, much nicer than Amstel in my opinion, although I do like that as well! Would rather drink those than Heineken!by figaro - Halkidiki
Re: info on hanioti - 15 years ago
Hi, You are based about a five min stroll to the main square where there are lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. Some good restaurants that I liked are Tropicana, the Italian on the corner can't remember the name), Romantica and the Hot Goblin (which is great if you just want something light such as a Jacket spud!). Bars around the square are Afros, Kelfos, Sunshine Bar, Long Isby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: transfer times - 15 years ago
The Tropical is where I am staying this year and I can certainly guarantee that you will have a great night there! The owners have become good friends of mine since I first stayed there two years ago. The Vicky Apartments are also a wonderful place to stay, as I said before, the owners are fantastic and will do all they can to make sure you have a great holiday. Their bar area has a lovelyby figaro - Halkidiki

I agree with Coxy, the Vicky Apartments are lovely, stayed there last year. Definitely recommend them. Enjoy - you will be converted to holidaying in Greece after this holiday - I guarantee it!by figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti & Hilltop Hotel - 15 years ago
Sunshine, You won't have any problems with the weather in July/August - if anything it will be too hot. I usually go in September and its always still really hot through the day, though sometimes I need a pashmina at night when wandering around. Last year I was there at the end of September/early October and it was mostly hot, only one day of cloud with a couple of showers. And the shoby figaro - Halkidiki

Sunshine, The beach is literally two mins walk from the square so no prb finding something to eat! There are also a few supermarkets close by where you could buy things to take down with you. A few of the beach bars will serve food as well. They also let you use their sun beds for free if you buy at least one drink in the bar. The beach is quite stony on the way into the sea, you will neby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Halkidiki Holidays who's will be there ? - 15 years ago
Richie, Vicky apartments are great, well positioned and lovely little pool that gets the sun nearly all day. If you get one of the rooms down the stairs at the side of the building you won't need your air con, as its lovely and shaded down there, great when you have been in the sun all day. There is a supermarket on the main road about 2 mins walk from the vicky and its reasonably priced aby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti & Hilltop Hotel - 15 years ago
Most restaurants are around the square and the surrounding streets, but there is a beach bar called bahalos on the beach. It gets quite busy.by figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Halkidiki Holidays who's will be there ? - 15 years ago
Hi Alan Definitely going back to Hanioti this year, could not imagine not going. We will be there from 3 - 10 September. Will be interesting to hear on here about prices and whether they have gone up/gone down since last year. Obviously the euro rate is very bad, but hoping that it may climb a little before we go (can dream anyway)!by figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Beware the "other" forum - 15 years ago
I agree Jane, Having originally signed up for that forum when it was set up, it is one that I hardly use at all, and rarely refer to, as I find it is not really kept up to date (but if they are removing posts that may be why!). This forum is much better, more people use it and I have found it to be really helpful and, for the most part, people are friendly and always wililng to help, as I dby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Pella Studios - Pefkohori - 15 years ago
Alanapp, I totally agree, we need to stick together and try and get the english tour operators to sort themselves out. I know there are a lot of people out there who love Halkidiki, all of the towns and not just Hanioti, Pefkohori etc and who will be very disappointed to not be able to go! Or, we could all try and get Easy Jet to fly out of a northern airport as well as Gatwick, and all boby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Vicky Apartments, Hanioti - 15 years ago
Just wanted to post and say that everyone who has answered my questions about the Vicky were spot on, it was a lovely hotel and the owners were very friendly. We got a great room downstairs and it was lovely and peaceful, like a little oasis! I will definitely be returning, and my mum will probably beat me to it next year. Thanks to everyone again!by figaro - Halkidiki
Re: HELP accomodation for family of 6 summer 2009 - 15 years ago
Suggest the Vicky Hotel. Although the rooms are not connecting you will be able to get rooms next to each other. Location great, in a quiet street, yet only 5 min walk to square and beach. There are a couple of playgrounds nearby and the pool at the Vicky is small, but perfectly formed! You can also go to pools at other hotels as well. Vicky books through Thomson and prices are quite reaby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Tropical Hotel, Hanioti - 15 years ago
You can always book directly with Vicky and Sakis if you like, and just get flights out there separately. Just returned myself and although I stayed elsewhere I spent a lot of time with Vicky and Sakis. They are happy for ppl to come into the hotel to use the pool etc and come to the bar at night even if you are not staying there!by figaro - Halkidiki
Exchange Rates - 15 years ago
Can anyone give me their views on whether it is best to get euros before I come to Hanioti this year or whether best to wait until in resort - what are the raets currently being offered in resort - it looks as though I can only get 1.22 or 1.23 over here at best. I did look into getting a Nationwide card but I dont have enough time now for the paperwork to go through before I come. Any ideaby figaro - Halkidiki

Re: WEATHER IN HANIOTI IN MIDDLE SEPTEMBER TO END - 15 years ago
We all catch the Hanioti bug when we go - how could we not. I am totally in love with the place and the people and could seriously see myself living out there if I could find a way to support myself! ha ha I can't wait to go back in September and have already booked up fo next year as well!by figaro - Halkidiki
Re: WEATHER IN HANIOTI IN MIDDLE SEPTEMBER TO END - 15 years ago
Hi Jo Jo Weather mid September last year was lovely through the day, actually got very hot so grab a sunbed next to the pool or by the sea so you can cool off. Evenings do get a little chilly, although we were still walking around in short sleeves and skirts etc though you may want to take a cardigan with you for around your shoulders depending on how you feel the cold. You will love itby figaro - Halkidiki

I would strongly suggest you book as its a very busy time of year in Halkidiki. It depends which town you would like to visit?by figaro - Halkidiki
Re: sarantis studios - 15 years ago
Bars I would recommend are Sunshine, Kelfos, Afros and Central Cafe. All are located around the square and are great for people watching or just sitting with a nice drink and watching the world go by. Billys Bar is quite nice as well, they have a couple who come and do karaoke and quiz nights which are really good. I highly recommend the Tropicana restaurant, situated on the square. Re: sarantis studios - 15 years ago
I've not stayed in these apartments, but you will love Hanioti, everyone does! The square is the place to be at night and through the day you can eitehr laze by your pool or down on the beach. The lifestyle is very relaxed and chilled out. Enjoy!by figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti Park - 15 years ago
The Sunshine Bar is just off the Square, next to the Kelfos Bar and opposite the Afros. You will see as you are wandering around. Am unsure of the name of the beach bar but know that it is open 24/7 and at night they have lights shining into the surf in front of the bar. Tropicana restaurant is highly recommended. The walk to Polichrono can be done along a road parallel to the beach andby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: FAKE DESIGNER GEAR - HANIOTI - 15 years ago
Hi Kerri The shops in Hanioti are quite varied, obviously a lot of souvenir shops but there are some small clothing shops and various other ones. Unsure about fake designer gear but there are small street traders on an evening who sell fake designer bags and the like. Its a great place to just have a wander round and dip in and out of the shops which take your fancy! You will definitely gby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti - 15 years ago
Lisa here Thanks everyone for posting and helping me out. I have one more small query. Can you tell me what the weather is generally like at the end of September first week in October. I know it will be cooler on a night time but will it still be fairly warm through the day? Also, will restaurants and shops etc still be open in Hanioti or will they all be closing down by then, its not thby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: Hanioti - 16 years ago
I can highly recommend Hanioti as an ideal place for you and your family to go. As Jane says above Hanioti is a tourist village with loads of nice bars and restaurants (a particular favourite of mine is the Tropicana on the square). The beach is easy to get to from every hotel. It can get quite busy in the summer, but just walk a little further along the beach from the main strip and its a lby figaro - Halkidiki
Re: exchange rate.... - 16 years ago
Can you let me know what the exchange rate is at the minute. Although I'm not coming until September (wish it was sooner!) the rate is rubbish over here (although I am hoping that it gets better when the season in full swing)!by figaro - Halkidiki
