Re: Less than 12 weeks now - 14 years ago
I'll be winging my way there in 24 hours for the Easter weekend - Kalo Pasxa!by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Chrousso Village - 14 years ago
I have never stayed at the hotel but I know where it is as I am a regular visitor to the beach there. The hotel is down a steep side road off the main road and very close to the beautiful shelving beach which has a great beach bar, water sports and LOTS of sunbeds & umbrellas. The sand is gorgeously soft and the water there is great for kids as it is very shallow and calm, you can walk out quby Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Countdown to hols..whos coming this year??? - 14 years ago
Countdown started ages ago! Back in 3 weeks for the weekend, then Easter, then early May bank hols, 10 days in early July and 10 days over the August bank hols - can't wait! p.s. hoping our pipes don't burst - have heard there is snow out there at the moment...!by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: hotel rigakis, pefkohori - 14 years ago
I have never stayed there but I am pretty sure it is still open - have you tried contacting them directly? You could book independently or ask them which tour operator they use...by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Fourka 2009 - 14 years ago
I went to the beach at Babe Watch in Fourka in both early July and early Sept. In July it was really busy, I didn't notice the nationality of the people there, although I didn't hear any English voices. In Sept it was really quiet, there were only about 10 of us in the whole area! The whole of Halkidiki has become very Eastern European dominated in recent years, I would say there are evenby Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: NewAll-Inclusive Hotel in Hanioti - 14 years ago
I always wonder why people would want to go AI in a place like Halkidiki, I would feel like I was missing out on so much - half the fun of a holiday for me is going to all the local restaurants & bars. I go AI in Taba in Egypt but that's cos there's no town or anywhere to go out nearby...Let's hope no more AI places spring up in Halkidiki!by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Sarantis Apartments/Hotel - Hanioti - 14 years ago
Oh dear, I have to say I read some of the reviews of Sarantis on Trip Advisor the other day and they were not very favourable! I'm glad you liked Hanioti and I hope you had a good holiday overall. If you go back to Hanioti try Hanioti Village...by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Weather?! - 14 years ago
I just got back yesterday after 9 days out there and yes, Sunday & Monday were cool & cloudy, with a torrential storm on Sundauy afternoon, but it doesn't tend to last long and I'm sure it will clear up in a day or two, if it hasn't already. The 7 days before that were roasting and you didn't even need a cardi in the evenings....by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Is the El Greco Restaurent in Pefkohori open this year 2009 - 14 years ago
Having read the posts about El Greco on this forum we thought we should try it for ourselves and it was lovely. We sat at a little table opposite the taverna and watched the world go by. The food was yummy and Billy even got out his guitar and serenaded us at the end... now you don't get that in London...!by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: restaurants - 14 years ago
There is a Chinese in Pefkohori but not sure it is worth the trip! Most of the restaurants are Greek and International i.e. they do traditional Greek food plus chicken fillets, steak, pizza, pasta etc. In my experience it is not really worth going to Chinese or Indian restaurants in Greece (particularly in the tourist areas) as the chefs are usually Greek rather than Chinese or Indian, so it iby Carolinus - Halkidiki

Re: !!!Night Life - 14 years ago
Frankie You will find it quietening down in Sept as the season is ending, but there will still be some life, particularly at the weekends when the Greeks come down from Thessaloniki. I don't know Polichrono very well but you could always get a cab to Hanioti (5 mins) where there are several lively bars - Kelfos on the main square and Sunshine just behind it to name but two. Re: Sarantis Apartments/Hotel - Hanioti - 14 years ago
Hi Milly I wouldn't worry or pay too much attention to all the reviews & comments, go with an open mind and form your own opinion. Sometimes it is good to get an idea of where you are going but reading too much can be destructive. Everyone is different and likes different things, you don't want to arrive with a negative opinion of the place cos you will find yourself looking for faults.by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Hotel Rigakis/Hotel Ammon Garden - 14 years ago
You can try booking Aeollos direct (http://www.aeollos.gr/indexeg.php or aeollos@otenet.gr). Pretty much anywhere is safe late at night - I walked home alone at 4am when I was out there a few weeks ago and it was absolutely fine, in fact most places were still full of people! Anna Maria is set back a bit so the walk would be a bit more daunting, and possibly dark. Pilalidis is nice butby Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Air conditioning prices - 14 years ago
Most (but not all) hotels charge extra for aircon, and it is usually about 5 Euros per day.... but in August you will definitely need it!by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: holiday in halkidiki - 14 years ago
It really depends what you want from a holiday. It is mainly a couples & families place but there are also lots of young as well, but it is not like Faliraki / Ayia Napa / Kavos etc. The scene is more bars & chilling out than clubbing & raving, although there are some clubs & lively bars. If you want nightlife then Kelfos & Sunshine (as previously mentioned) are good - tby Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Hotel Rigakis/Hotel Ammon Garden - 14 years ago
How about Aeollos (bookable through Thomas Cook). Nice big apartments, many with twin beds, good (but quite small) pool and very close to the beach. About 5 mins walk to the centre of the resort with lots of bars & tavernas near by. They also do lots of evening entertainment if that's your thing - karaoke, BBQ etc, although there is no need to join in if it's not your bag! If you haven't bby Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: holiday in halkidiki - 14 years ago
Hi Milly No, I haven't stayed in that hotel, I always stay in Pefkohori, but this year a friend and I have bought our own place out there, which is very exciting. We always visit Hanioti when we are there as it is only 5 mins down the road and we have lots of friends there.by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: holiday in halkidiki - 14 years ago
OK, Sarantis is in Hanioti - good choice. It will be very busy at this time of year as it is peak season for the Greeks who make up the majority of tourists in the area. Hanioti has a long beach with a mixture of sand & shingle, it gets busy in the middle area so if you want a bit of peace & quiet just walk left or right for about 10 minutes, there are also lots of water sports availabby Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Internet access in polichrono - 14 years ago
I don't know Polichrono that well but we did find a little internet cafe just down the road from the Cockney Cafe (towards the beach).by Carolinus - Halkidiki

What kind of advice would you like?! Where are you staying? What do you want to do when you are there?by Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: car hire for £20 per day - 14 years ago
I think £20 per day for even a small car is pretty cheap in peak season. I was in Halkidiki in early July and had a car for 8 days with Avis, we always use them cos my friend works for them so we get discount! Even with the discount we still paid about £20 per day for the smallest car (although they always upgrade us - last time we had an Opel Astra) plus we paid extra on top of that for the fuby Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: To buy or rent - 14 years ago
A friend and I have recently bought a maisonette in Pefkohori. It is only for holidays so we are not moving out there, but it was pretty cheap. Our budget was 100,000 Euros for 2 bedrooms and we got a lovely brand new maisonette within our budget, 5 mins walk from the beach and close to all the amenities in Pefkohori. I would suggest spending a winter out there first before moving there becausby Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Pefkohori - 14 years ago
You will find everywhere pretty lively in August as it is peak season, although there are more Brits in Hanioti if that is what you prefer. Aeollos are lovely apartments in a great location. If you walk down the the beach and turn right there are some lovely beach bars which are buzzing in the day (buy a drink and you get to use the sunbeds for free) and chill-out bars by night. If you turn leby Carolinus - Halkidiki
Re: Prices - 14 years ago
I wouldn't worry too much, yes Greece is not as cheap as it used to be, but it is still not as expensive as the UK (particularly London). I have been going every year for the past 5 years and have now bought a place out there, and to be honest I don't think it is any more expensive now than it was 5 years ago, apart from the exchange rate.
