Re: halkidiki palace hotel - 12 years ago
It is nice if you post a question here to actually say thank you if you get a reply? I agree with Halkidiki Lover, if people don't bother to say thanks, then others will be reluctant to post help for people.by Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Animal cruelty THROUGHOUT GREECE - 12 years ago
Jane, I am so sorry to hear about your dog. This behaviour has got to stop, but how do we get the majority of Greeks who don't care to care? I really don't know. We have lived there on and off for the last 11 years (Halkidiki), and been visiting for 30 years. It was not until we lived there long term that we started to understand the true problems. Yes as a tourist I fed strays and gave them watby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: NATIONWIDE ATM CHARGES 1ST NOVEMBER 2010 - 13 years ago
The thing was LJ, that the nationwide was the most viable card to use for the last few years. No charges, no commission and the business exchange rate of the day. We got really good rates. They first started charging outside Europe, so it follows that they would do this at some stage, even though they said they would not. Nothing, even using a broker, could be as good value as this once was. Wby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: NATIONWIDE ATM CHARGES 1ST NOVEMBER 2010 - 13 years ago
Yes Jane, one of the many reasons we decided to leave was when we found this out in August. They had started to charge outside of Europe but said they would not charge in Europe, seems they changed their minds. Makes a huge difference when you are living off UK money, as you well know. Hope it all goes well in Cyprus. Are the flights back home going to be OK, do easyjet go there?by Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Please, expat or someone staying over the winter, help this dog - 13 years ago
Calliope, I have tried to email you but not sure if my messages are being treated as spam. I am still so worried about this dog, have you managed to go and look for him yet? He was just such a gentle dog and was quite happy there til those awful English people and their rocks. I think you said you would ask at the church, although I cannot imagine why someone there would look after a dog, puttinby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Please, expat or someone staying over the winter, help this dog - 13 years ago
There is a mountain road, from Nea Skioni over to Hanioti. He is at the church at the top, on the left hand side going from Skioni side. Although he wasnt there the other day for the first time in months. A few days earlier we had seen an ENGLISH couple about to throw a rock at him, he went towards them tail wagging and very submissive. I told them not to throw rocks, but the man was very nasty jby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: George.... The resident Dog of Kriopigi - 13 years ago
He is, as far as I know, a stray. One that has been dumped in the village. That is if he is the white bull mastiff, also known as Baloo !by Jane - Halkidiki

PLEASE someone must be staying over the winter in Halkidiki, help this dog - 13 years ago
please, he is so gorgeous, but he needs to be kept an eye on. Clean water and some food would be good. Anyone who lives in or near Hanioti, or Skioni, he is halfway between you on the mountain road at the church, not a great distance for a dog lover. Please..........................by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Please, expat or someone staying over the winter, help this dog - 13 years ago

Re: Animal cruelty THROUGHOUT GREECE - 13 years ago
Cruelty to animals is one of the distinguishing vices of low and base minds. Wherever it is found, it is a certain mark of ignorance and meanness; a mark which all the external advantages of wealth, splendor, and nobility, cannot obliterate. It is consistent neither with learning nor true civility.-William Jones so true..................by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Dogs and other animals in Halkidiki - 13 years ago
Athena, are you are facebook? We could do with someone like you to join us all who are fighting for the animals of the world, but particularly Greece. We are currently phoning and emailing the Mayor of Athens who unbelievably withholds water from the strays of Athens, resulting in much publicised deaths of much loved strays this summer. After pressure he promised to restore the water, then went bby Jane - Halkidiki
Please, expat or someone staying over the winter, help this dog - 13 years ago
HALKIDIKI - Please, anyone living through the winter on Kassandra peninsula, there is a gorgeous dog at the church on the road from Hanioti to Skioni. It is not tied up and looks well, but just lately when we check on him he has had no food and water pots were filthy. He is a super friendly dog and I worry when we leave 14 Oct that there is no-one to keep an eye on him. If we had our own houseby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Greek Real Estate Agents - 13 years ago
We know a very nice young man, in skioni. I can get his name and number, we just gave his card to someone else to use. He speaks excellent English and has found houses for several English people. He can find some really good houses at good prices. When we see him next, probably this week, will post his info on site.by Jane - Halkidiki

Hi Anne, I have spoken to Julie but she tells me you already know her. She is the only person I know that can help you, but she is overrun as usual with so many dogs. I am asking around if anyone would like a pup, but you know what it is like here, so many dogs so few dog lovers. I wish you luck, and thank you so much for caring about this dog and her puppies.by Jane - Halkidiki

Re: House for rent this winter ? - 13 years ago
Hi, are you only interested in sithonia? We are currently renting a three storey house in Possidi, Kassandra. It is half a mile from the sea through olives groves (you can drive thro) one way, and two miles from the other side of the beach. We originally rented for two years, but are leaving in Oct for health and financial reasons. The owner is visiting us on 11 sept to check the house soby Jane - Halkidiki

Called in at Fourka beach area today. They wonder why they are losing tourists? Konstantinos Cafe, view to the beach one way view to the new effluent pumping station the other ! Frappe advertised on board outside at 2.5 Euros. Ordered two, came with the usual small bottle of water each. Checked bill, was 3 euros each drink. Checked menu, 2.5 euros for frappe. Re: Dogs and other animals in Halkidiki - 13 years ago
Julie, it is so good to hear from a tourist who is actually bothered about the dogs and other animals suffering here in Greece. I did try back in 2006 on this forum as you can see from this posting, and a few kind people replied. But there are not enough I know people save hard for their holidays and Greece is a beautiful country, but it is also a hell hole for animals. I have recently found oby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Truckers' strike - 13 years ago
OK, going on Sakis comments we decided to go out and try to fill the car up and get some unleaded for the bike. So here is the updated situation about an hour or so ago. We left Possidi and travelled towards Kallithea. Huge queues outside the 2 stations in Fourka (about 40+ cars), so drove past. Into Siviris, both stations closed with no fuel. Kassandrea, again huge queues of 40+ cars at bothby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: HELP!!!!! What will the weather be like between 5th-20th of Sept? - 13 years ago
Further south doesn't guarantee good hot weather either. Anywhere in the Med can be unreliable in September, perhaps you should come over in August if you need really hot?by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Truckers' strike - 13 years ago
Well we went out this morning to try and get some unleaded fuel for the motorbike. There are two stations open on this side, and both have huge queues of cars waiting and the tanker was not due to arrive for another half hour. As we were almost riding the bike on "air" we decided we would not wait as by the time we got to the front of the queue there would probably be no fuel left anywaby Jane - Halkidiki

Sale, moving back to UK - 13 years ago
Hi We have various items for sale if anybody is interested - I can pm you a list of what is left if you let me know. We also have around 300-400 litres of heating diesel which we bought thinking we would stay through the winter. However, now we are leaving it seems a shame to give the owner of the house another bonus. If anyone can collect some of it somehow we are happy to sell it for 50ceby Jane - Halkidiki
