Re: Just got back from hanioti Lesse Studios - 17 years ago
Hi Loz, don't let one hotel and one resort put you off going to Halkidiki. We have been going 25+ years and there are some lovely places. There are also some good tours, but you need to go to the less busy villages to book. Never stayed in Hanioti, never booked tours in Hanioti, but then again we did all the tours 25 years ago, so now we tour by car ourselves. It would be nice if you couldby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: What is all this rubbish - 17 years ago
I think Nikos does remove them, but sometimes like now they get so prolific that it takes time. I too replied direct to some of them, but sadly I think this only feeds their ego, to know people read and reply. The best thing is to ignore them (difficult I know as they are so so stupid), but eventually Nikos gets rid of them in his clearouts. So sad isnt it that they need to put their rubbishby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Litsa appartments - Fourka INFO FROM SARAH PLEASE - 17 years ago
Hi Sarah, just interested in your comment about teaching English. I am going to do a TESOL this year and I was wondering if there was work about in schools? I have Greek friends out there and they say there is a lot of private work available (more than enough for the two of us lol !!). But it was interesting to hear you had been offered a job in a school. Can you give me any more info, obviousby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Hacked Off With Spam - 17 years ago
Well said Rosemary. The unfortunate thing is that these saddos feed off reactions to their drivel. Gosh, they must be so saaaad, what a life eh! At least we enjoy our hols in Halkidiki, they probably cant afford anything as they spend so much time creating drivel they dont earn any money.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: September weather - 17 years ago
Hi, we have still been over there towards end Oct for three years on the trot and it was still warm and the sea nice temp to swim in. Of course years vary, nd this year they have had more rain than normal (although we got three dry weeks in June/July). September should be lovely and warm though. Janeby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: flight only to thessaloniki - 17 years ago
Nicola, that is expensive. Where are you flying from? We got two flights going out 15 June for three weeks, coming back 6 July for £232 total for two adults. It was from Gatwick which is quite a way for us as we live in Derbyshire, but I managed to get carparking for £55 for three weeks as well, so we got a good deal I think. Would love to go from East Mids but it appears too expensive.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Night Life!!! - 17 years ago
Cath, not sure about the discount, but you will get really looked after ! We have known Morfy and Sakis since we lived there 1999-2001. We went to their wedding and know the family well. They are all lovely. The coffee shop is more Greek style rather than blatently try to get foreign tourists, but having said that they get a good share of the tourist trade by remaining genuine Greek style andby Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Night Life!!! - 17 years ago
Hi Cath, we stayed at the Pallini Beach for many years from 1976 until 1998, mostly every year. We liked it. On first impression we thought "oh god, a concrete Butlins", but it never was. It has a lovely beach, nice gardens and the rooms are a decent size, although the balcony is a bit small. The food was always OK for us. The breakfasts were buffet and good. The evening meals weby Jane - Halkidiki

I could send via the site, but last time I tried this to Kerrie she never got the message Cheers Jane ps I bet you could rent an apartment at Siviris where we went too if he is there til end Octby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Typical Weather for June - 17 years ago
Jeff, gosh I must start going backwards again away from Fourka....!!!!!!! LOL I must say though we have always liked Siviris, and now we can book direct it is great. The UK tour operators, as usual, dumped Siviris when they didnt get what they wanted. So now it is a German resort! However, we know the quiet places on the beach front, can't speak German but can speak Greek, and found a greatby Jane - Halkidiki

Re: Pefkohori and Hanioti 2006 our thoughts - 17 years ago
Graham, get a map to show you the locations of the various villages etc., but for Kassandra you have only one road really. The road from Thessaloniki onto Kassandra is pretty easy, then it splits at Kallithea. From here you can go around the pensinula on the coast road. The only other roads are into the villages, and over the mountain (two of these). It does not take long to drive all the waby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Typical Weather for June - 17 years ago
Whereabouts were you Lyn, and what dates? We were at Siviris, although we travelled most days around to different parts, but we had no rain in the day at all til the last Monday 3 or was it 2 July in Thessaloniki? Mind you when we lived there, we often missed the rain at Mola Kaliva when it swept in a band across the middle. Strange. But like I said, we were lucky to get three weeks of dryby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Typical Weather for June - 17 years ago
We have been going 28+ years, always in June, and for three years we lived there April til October. We never had much rain at all, and on a two week holiday NEVER got more than an odd bad day. This year we went 15 June for 3 weeks. We got about five evenings where it rained (mostly overnight, although two started early evening), and we got one day where it rained all day (although we were in Tby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Pefkohori and Hanioti 2006 our thoughts - 17 years ago
Don't know any firms in Hanioti as we have never actually stayed there, only visited. We use Economy Car Rentals, on this site, or Kriopigi Cars. This year we used Avis as we had some travel points to use up, and they were good too. We usually pick up at airport for the whole holiday. Must sees? Well it depends what you want. Re: Pefkohori and Hanioti 2006 our thoughts - 17 years ago
Hi there, Fourka is perfectly OK, please don't worry. It is just one of the newer resorts that appeared long after we started going over there and we don't like it because it is quite flat compared to other villages and beaches. Lots of people go there and love it. Jeff Fourka Mad Dog Man will not doubt post soon on this, he loves Fourka and used to go with his late wife. There are lots oby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Pefkohori and Hanioti 2006 our thoughts - 17 years ago
No offence taken ! We have seen a lot of the world too and of course some places that far exceed the experience of Greece, or Halkidiki in particular. We just always go back there as our "base", probably because my dad was Greek and never took me there, I don't know. We have also visited some islands, in particular Chios where my family originated. But I do know what you mean, andby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Pefkohori and Hanioti 2006 our thoughts - 17 years ago
Thanks for your report. I understand this is your personal view and that you overall had a good holiday. But please, there are other parts to Halkidiki other than Pefkohori and Hanioti. There are lovely places to eat where you will get more of a Greek atmosphere and food, and good food at that, but these places are to be found by driving around the peninsula. In particular there is Villa Staby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Dogs and other animals in Halkidiki - 17 years ago
Thanks Kerrie, I have sent you a private email. Can anybody else help while holidaying over there. I know you save hard for your holidays and want to enjoy them to the full, but just a little help goes a long way to making life better for these dumped pups etc. They didnt ask to be born, and it really is heartbreaking to see them dumped like rubbish. Re: driving to Greece - 17 years ago
Hi, we did it three years on the trot, but we went Calais, Strasbourg, Venice and then got a boat to Igoumenitsa first time, thereafter to Patras. I know people say it is now safe to go through Slovenia, Croatia etc., but apart from not being sure, it is a hell of a drive and you can now get a super fast ferry that takes (I think) about 17 hours from Venice. We stopped at hotels in Calais,by Jane - Halkidiki

Dogs and other animals in Halkidiki - 17 years ago
Hi all, we are back after three weeks over in Halkidiki. During that time we found three puppies dumped (about five weeks old maximum). Could hardly walk, very tiny. Dumped near the water spring on the mountain road from Hanioti to Skioni. We fed them every day whilst trying to find some help. A few days later another puppy was dumped with them from an entirely different litter, and a bit older.by Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Taxis to Nea Kalikratia - 17 years ago
Hi there Richard We may be interested in renting this apartment. We are looking for somewhere to rent for the whole year, for perhaps an initial year or two and possibly extend (although we could always move). We have lived in Halkidiki before, but near Skioni. Looking at the map I dont think it is too far to reach our friends in Kriopigi, we certainly would not need to go every day ! Isby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Athens - 17 years ago
I agree, we have driven from Athens and it takes a good six hours. The plane takes about 40 mins, but remember the time to check in at either end. Also personally I think Thessaloniki is a much nicer city. It has museums, lots of history, the old town, Jewish museum, fantastic places to eat, nice shops and is on the waterfront. There are loads of historical sites in Thessaloniki, you can findby Jane - Halkidiki
Just back from Halkidiki - 17 years ago
Just got back on Thursday from Halkidiki. We were there for three weeks and the weather was clear blue skies and sunshine the whole time (except last Monday in Thessaloniki when it rained all day). Apparently on the Monday it rained in Halkidik too, but only the morning. We had rain and storms a few nights. It was very very hot during our second week, 38 deg on the shade thermometer. Re: Sithonia, is it worth car hire. - 17 years ago
Hi, just looked where the hotel is and it is 6km from Nea Marmaras. Whilst I have always stayed on Kassandra peninsula, we have driven around Sithonia many times and we always visit Nea Maramaras. It has lots of tavernas, shops etc and is quite a nice little town right by the sea. Lots of choice of eateries. Up on the main palm of Halkidiki you will find a place called Parthenon. Just a smaby Jane - Halkidiki
Re: Sithonia, is it worth car hire. - 17 years ago
I think you will need a car as Sithonia is more spread out than Kassandra. So unless you just want to chill out on a beach I would recommend a car. Where are you staying?by Jane - Halkidiki
