Hi,
Afitos is a beautiful place, we have been there several times.A good place to eat is 'Christos bar have to go thro' the main square and its on the right after the barriers that close traffic off at night,Haris bar is also good, thats on the left directly after the barriers. ATM is in the main square, in the evening, have a walk along the 'front' [its not on the beach because thats down a steep hill] its magical, bars, shops, and street traders bring a really nice atmosphere. On the front there's a nice bar called 'on the rocks' owned by a lovely guy named George.
Regarding car hire, we always use 'KRIOPIGI CARS' owned by Sakis, located in Kriopigi, all business is built on trust, no deposit, just drop him an email with your requirements and he will get back to you, [sales@kriopigi.net] he and his family also own 'AKROPOLIS' restaurant which has a really entertaining greek night on a saturday night, [booking advisable as it is popular] lovely family, great service. Kalithea has many good bars, restaurants and shops, a bit livelier than Afytos and kriopigi. If you are hiring a car, try Hanioti for the day, i personally not keen on it, its a bit like a british seaside resort but nicer. Polychrono is also nice for a day out. to be honest, you can drive around the whole of Kassandra, on the main road,in a couple of hrs, so for a day out, have a drive round and stop at several places.
Sithonia is also a beautiful place and really easy to get to, totally different scenery, but just as beautiful beaches and some nice bars.
I hope this helps, have a lovely holiday in Halkidiki, if you are like us and many people we know, you will fall in love with the place and keep on returning.
